TransmediaSF meet-up

Last night I went to my first TransmediaSF meet-up, Transmedia Storyworlds: Creating and Managing Your Content. They had two guest speakers Bernie Su of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, a modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, and Byard Duncan of Bluebottle Coffee.

Though I consider myself more of Emily Bronte girl than a Jane Austen one, if we are talking about 19th century literature, I found Bernie Su’s presentation on the process and popularity of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries a truly enlightening one. It is impressive how their use of social media (from This is My Jam to LOOKBOOK to the known suspects Twitter and Facebook) was so well thought out. Different characters use whichever social networks that made the most sense for their characters. Of course this is not the first time we’ve seen fictional characters taking up social media profiles but this is one of the most successful examples I have seen. Bernie Su was also just an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and funny guy.

Brian Duncan walked us through Bluebottle’s web and social media strategy. I discovered their brewing tips through this presentation. Totally wonderful, but be warned if you look at them you are really going to want a small spout kettle. The photos make it look oh so sexy.

NEXT UP ON THE CALENDAR: A preview of a series of workshops on How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse.
